I'm a mechanical engineer by trade and always a tinkerer, some electrical - but mostly mechanical. Cut my teeth board drafting (I'm old-ish) then CAD, then 3D modeling and now technical animation. I've always had a wood shop but just for light remodeling. Wanted to get into blacksmithing and/or home machining, but 3D printing seemed a bit 'cleaner' and cheaper and an easier sell (read compromise) to the wife. Working from home for past year+ (2 weeks to flatten curve right?) and it was great to do this behind me in the home office while I worked.
Not satisfied with just a working printer, I've changed just about everything except the original rails and LCD screen on E3Pro. Get it dialed in, run some prototypes for a few weeks and then have to tinker again. I've had everything from V6 hotends, to Microswiss DD, Tough extruder and any number of fan ducts. I'm currently running Hemera on linear rails and have settled on this for a while as it's really working well.
I'll say this much. With all the parts I've tried - there is something to be said for cheap clones vs the original or quality replicas. Anything I've tried from bangood or aliexpress has been mostly garbage. Last summer, I had a BTT SKR in hand ready to install and returned it when the EZBoard came back into stock. Yes its 4X the cost, but its simply worked from day one without issue. Same with EZABL. I like to tinker, but don't have time to mess with shit for quality either.
